Looking to Sell Your Vintage Bourbon?

Give us a Call!

Here in Kentucky, laws allow businesses with a special vintage liquor license to purchase bottles from private collectors. These bottles must be fully sealed, cannot be available from a distributor, nor can they be purchased directly by us from a distillery. We are able to purchase up to 24 bottles in a calendar year from one individual, and all purchases are filed with the Kentucky Alcoholic Beverage Commission.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

If you are interested in selling your bottles, please begin by sending a list and photos to shop@thehouseofbourbon.com. For rare modern bottles, such as Blanton's and Weller, group shots are fine. For older bottles, we will need clear photos of the front and back labels, the tax stamps over the top of the bottle, the base of the bottle, and a backlit, level photo of the bottle. If there are any questions, you can reach us at 859-317-8609.

Our staff will review your photos and reach out to you with an offer, which is made pending inspection. This means our offer stands only if the photos are representative of the bottle or bottles as seen in person. If the bottle is brought to our store and there are issues with the condition that were not apparent in photos, our staff may rescind the offer at their discretion.

If you accept the offer, you'll set a time to bring your bourbon to our Lexington or Louisville locations, where you'll meet with one of our staff to complete the sale. We will inspect your bottles, take down your name, address, and phone number, and confirm with both you and our records that you are under the 24 bottle per year maximum. We'll write you a business check and invite you to have a look around the store!

Our needs and offer prices vary throughout the year based on demand, stock, and seasonality, but we strive to make them in line with the market. We rarely purchase Maker's Mark Keeneland or team releases (although we are interested in Maker's Mark bottles prior to 2000), Jack Daniels, or bottles of other liquor besides bourbon, rye, or American whiskey (ie Scotch, gin, vodka).

We look forward to speaking with you!
